Education Director Heather Campbell says there’s continues to be gains made in primary reading and writing.
68 per cent of grade 3 students achieved at or above the provincial standard for reading, an increase of 13 per cent since 2013.
In writing, 66 per cent reached the grade, a 7 per cent improvement since 2013.
At the grade 6 level, 75 per cent of students passed in reading and 68 per cent in writing.
The reading results are 7 percentage points better than in 2013 while the writing results are about the same as they were four years ago.
Math continues to be one of the areas where Campbell sees the board and its teachers continue to focus on.
58 per cent of grade 3s and 38 per cent of grade 6s met or exceeded provincial standards in their tests.
At the high school level, 35 per cent of grade 9 Applied Mathematics students and 83 per cent of Academic Mathematics students acheived the provincial standards.
