At the opening of the Northern Ontario Scotties in Sudbury, Thunder Bay's Krista McCarvile defeated Bella Croiser of Sudbury10-6.

At the Masters provincial playdown, also in Sudbury, Thunder Bay's Gord Williams and Al Hackner, now curling out of Sudbury, won their opening games for a share of the lead.


The Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League kicked off the second half of its season with How I Set Your Mother sweeping both Let's Talk About Sets and Duck and Dive in straight games.

The Volley Llamas also swept Let's Talk About Set while beating Duck and Dive 2 games to one.

Take A Hit swept the Bumping Uglies while beat Bump It Up 2-1.

No Diggity also beat Bump It Up 2-1 and the Bumping Uglies 2-0.

Kiss My Pass defeated Scared Hitless 2-0 while getting by Gillons 2-1.

Scared Hitless and Gillon both earned wins over Safe Sets in straight games.


International Falls Broncos girls basketball team beat Eveleth-Gilbert 54-39.

Grace Gilbert led the attact with 14 points.


Rainy River's Cole Tymkin scored his sixth of the seaons, but his OHL London Knights lost 5-1 to Kitchener.


Fort Frances Canadians AA pee wee team open their home tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre this morning at 11 a.m. with a game against International Falls.

The six team tournament also has clubs from Kenora, Dryden, Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

The final will be played Sunday.
