Some communities in the Rainy River district have been awarded funding for sewer and water infrastructure improvements.
Both senior levels of government are kicking in dollars with feds covering half of the construction costs with the province in for another quarter through the federal government’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund..
Fort Frances is getting almost $960-thousand for an upgrade to Second Street East between Mowatt and Portage Avenues to replace water and sanitary sewer mains.
Bay City Contracting of Thunder Bay will do that work as part of a package of projects planned for this summer.
Atikokan is receiving combined funding of $312-thousand toward the rehabilitation of a sewage pumping station on Maple Crescent.
The town of Rainy River is earmarked for over $225-thousand for water and sanitary sewer line replacement along a section of Atwood Avenue.
Emo is getting money for two projects – $130-thousand for upgrades to its Main Sewage Pumping Station and a lift station on Roy Street.
Another $33-thousand is to replace pumps at the water treatment plant.
The township of Chapple is getting $76-thousand to upgrade a main outlet pipe at its Lagoon.
In what appears to a related news, an announcement of infrastructure funding for the Rainy River district is to be made today in Fort Frances.
Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Don Rusnak will be on hand for the event on behalf of the Amarjeet Sohi, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
Rusnak’s office confirms representatives from the municipalities benefiting from yesterday’s funding announcement have been invited.
