Authorities in Minnesota are warning against walking or driving on the early ice covering some bodies of water.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says is just not safe, especially now with temperatures fluctuating as they have in recent days.
The DNR says there’s already been several emergency ice rescues and two anglers died after breaking through the ice on the upper Red Lake with their ATV.
Conservation Officer Adam Block says no fish is worth falling through thin ice for.
Ice needs to be at least four inches thick to be safe to walk, 5″ to 7″ for a snowmobile or ATV and 12″ to 15″ for a vehicle.
