A new report finds almost half a million Ontarians needed the assistance of a food bank last year.
One third of them were children.
The Ontario Association of Food Banks’ report also reveals 90 per cent of users were rental or social housing tenants.
More than 45 per cent of food bank clients had less than $100-hundred left after paying basic expenses.
The Association suggests an increase to Ontario’s social assistance programs alongside investments in affordable housing.
