Ontario municipalities are looking for stable funding from the province.
The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund has been the province’s main form of assistance but is currently under review by the Ford government.
AMO President Jamie McGarvey says any reduction could result in tax increases or service cuts.
“Enhancing the existing financial envelope is likely unrealistic at this time but preserving it is critical,” says McGarvey.
McGarvey says vital day-to-day services should not be abandoned and shifting more cost to the tax base is not wise either.
The town of Fort Frances is already estimating a loss of $167-thousand to its share of funding.
