The needs of families with young children being explored by the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.
It’s gathering input to assist the Ministry of Education with its transformation of four existing programs as one next year.
Manager of Integrated Services Tanis Fretter says for our district, that primilarily impacts the Best Start Hubs.
“We are working with our communities to try and understand what works really well with our hubs currently,” says Fretter. “As well, we are also out there to understand the needs of families.
Fretter says the Hubs are no in danger of disappering.
What they are looking at is how to help the Hubs fit into the Ministry’s new vision.
Fretter says the Ministry requires certain core services to be delivered, but there’s an ability to tailor services to meet local community needs.
A report based on the local feedback is to be forwarded to the Ministry in September.
Fretter says they’re likely to continue local consultations after based on their findings.
