Some long-awaited supports for children with autism.
The Minister for Children and Youth Services introduced the new Ontario Autism Program to overhaul the province’s services for children and youth with autism.
Michael Coteau says services and therapy will be customized for each family based on the child’s needs.
The age restriction on existing programs have been increase to 18 and there will be no limit on the length of treatment a child can receive.
Coteau says the province will switch to the new program by the end of month and have it fully implemented by the end of this year.
The program is intended to reduce wait times for therapy and services, and make it easier for families to get supports like Applied Behavioural Analysis therapy.
Families will also be able to choose between receiving services directly, and receiving funding to pay for private services.
