A report calling for the creation of new riding boundaries in parts of northern Ontario is now in the hands of the provincial government.
The Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission is recommending splitting the existing riding of Kenora-Rainy River, with the northern portion creating a new riding called Kiiwetinong.
The new Kenora-Rainy River boundary will include Kenora, Dryden and most of the Rainy River district, excluding Atikokan.
The Commission also recommends the new ridings of Mushkegowuk and Timmins in northeastern Ontario.
Attorney General Yasir Naqvi says legislation will be introduced this fall to implement the Commission’s recommendations.
