The forest fire season in northwestern Ontario appears to be winding down
Just three small fires continues to burn, including two island fires at Little Turtle Lake, north of Mine Centre and Crooked Lake in Quetico Provincial Park.
That’s allowing the Ministry of Natural Resources to downsize.
Fire crew levels have been reduced by about 35 per cent with seasonal staff contracts coming to an end and others returning to school.
The MNR says it still have adequate resources to handle any new fires that may arise over the next few weeks.
