The union that represents food inspectors in the country is cautioning Canadians about proposed changes to meat inspection procedures.
A spokesperson for the Public Service Alliance says even though some of the changes have been put on hold, he still has concerns.
Bob Kingston says that’s because the changes don’t address the shortage of inspectors.
He says even if there is new leadership and they have indicated positive signs of looking into issues, they need to look at the bigger problems first.
Kingston adds there is genuine concern among the workers that there could be increased food outbreaks and recalls.
