A draft environmental impact statement is now out for public comment on the planned re-route of Highway 53 between Virginia and Eveleth.
The document outlines the transportation and environmental impacts associated with the pending termination of easement rights on the existing section of highway.
United Taconite says it need the area to mine and announced in 2010 the need to end a 50 year agreement with the State.
The new section of Highway is to open by 2017.
