The federal government is looking at changes to the Indian Act that discriminate ion from the Indian Act.
Indigenous and Northern Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett has introduced a bill, she says will eliminate inequities containing the registration provisions of the Act.
It’s a response to a Quebec court case that found the sections of act discriminated against Indigenous women.
The feds say next February, they will begin speaking with First Nations and other Indigenous group to examine other issues related to registration, band membership and citizenship.
