New Gold has received approval to continue construction of a tailings management facility at its mine project north of Barwick.
Earlier construction had been halted over concerns about the strength of the foundation.
A change in the design sees a flattening of the slopes along the earth embarkments.
Mine manager Grant Goddard says gaining approval is another step toward development of the facility.
Goddard says it will likey take about four months to complete phase one of the construction.
The facility will be able to be expanded upon in the future.
