The town of Fort Frances is not yet ready to award a tender for construction of the Rainy Lake Square.
The lowest bid received came in at about $680-thousand more than budgeted.
Operations and Facilities Manager Travis Rob says they have been working with both the architect and the low bidder to see if final costs can be brought down.
So far, they have been able to find about $300-thousand in savings.
Rob is still confident construction can start later in May.
But he says if they can get the cost down any lower, it will be up to council to either look at contributing more dollars to the project or taking out key components.
A report is to first come to the Operations and Facilities committee next week.
