Sears Canada will begin its liquidation sales this Friday.
59 locations will close its doors including stores in Saint John and Bathurst, and cut about 2900 positions as part of its restructuring plans.
The stores will have until October 12th to sell all remaining merchandise.
Sears has lost more than $528 million in the past three years and sales have been declining since 2012.
The New Brunswick Federation of Labour isn’t happy with the treatment of thousands of laid off Sears employees after the company filed for bankruptcy.
Many long term employees, who would otherwise be legally eligible for compensation, will receive nothing.
