Fort Frances town council is going to take a closer look at its by-law that allows businesses or organizations to request and pay an annual fee for a parking spot in the downtown area.
This after two requests for spots reached council’s table last night.
H & R Block is seeking a spot for a loading zone.
Service Canada is asking for one to be designated a handicap spot.
Mayor Roy Avis is concerned with the number of requests that have come forward.
“I get the feeling that sometime we’re dedicated these loading zones and they are using them for personal parking. That’s not the reason why we are dedicating them.”
“Some day we have to put a stop to it and have a better control of it. The only way we’re going to be able to do that is review the by-law.”
The issue is going back to the committee level for discussion
A total of 11 businesses and organizations currently pay for spots.
Eight of them are within the downtown area.
