Katelyn Brown scored 11 in helping the Owls junior girls basketball team to a hard-fought 37-35 win over Kenora’s Thomas Aquinas Saints to take home the Division A championship.
It’s the school’s first title in junior girls basketball since 2014.
The Owls were also in competition for the senior girls crown but fell to the Saints 52-30 to claim silver medals.
Atikokan Voyageurs also earned silver in senior boys volleyball after losing to the Saints 3 games to one in that final.
Fort Frances Lakers are in a rematch with the Minnesota Iron Rangers tonight in Hoyt Lakes.
Coach Wayne Strachan says they are a tough team to beat and the team needs to be focused at playing for 60 minutes and not playing to their opponents level.
Lakers return home Saturday for a game against Thief River Falls.
Rinks skipped by Jenna Enge of Delvin and Hailey Beaudry of Fort Frances both lost their third games in the Tier 2 division of the Pinty’s World Curling Challenge in Thunder Bay.
Enge’s foursome fell to Susan Froud of Waterloo, Ontario 5-4.
Beaudry foursome was beaten by Un-Chi Gum of Korea 8-3.
In the men’s division of Tier 2, Thunder Bay’s Dylan Johnston, with Devlin’s Mike Badiuk playing third, loss to William Lyburn of Winnipeg 5-3.
All three tinks play their final round-robin games today.
