The Ford government is looking outside of the Ontario Provincial Police force to appoint its new commissioner.
Thomas Carrique comes to the OPP from the York Regional Police where he is currently the deputy chief.
In his 29 year career with the force has Carrique has developed a wide variety of experience in almost all aspects of policing .
Thomas Carrique begins his new life as OPP commissioner April 8th.
His appointment follows Premier Doug Ford’s controversial decision to appoint long-time family friend Ron Taverner as the OPP commissioner.
It created several months of debate over whether Taverner was qualified enough until finally, last week, he decided not to take the job. (Photo: York Regional Police)
