The Ontario government says it’s making changes to its autism program after hearing the concerns of parents.
Social Services Minister Lisa MacLeod announced they’ll be adding more funding into the program which will now be based on the needs of the family.
“Parents were right when they said that autism is a spectrum. And that there are different needs for children on the spectrum. So for the next few months, I’ll take their input to best assess how we better support those with complex needs, and provide additional supports for them,” says MacLeod.
MacLeod adds that parents worried they may have to end the publicly funded therapy their child is currently in, will have their contracts extended an extra six months.
