Ontario’s Consumer Services Minister is looking for solutions to the delays in getting a birth certificate.
Bill Walker says the current 15-week time frame is just not acceptable.
He admits there are many factors leading to those delays.
“There’s a lot of challenges with getting a form being filled in manually and then gets kicked out and has to go through another manual system and that backlogs the whole system. I don’t want band-aids, I want to make sure we are fixing the whole system and if its as simple as a form then let’s fix that form,” says Walker.
The Consumer Services Minister admits a higher demand for birth certificates has also led to the delay.
Walker is currently talking with front line staff for their ideas.
