A lawyer representing the Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services has been fired.
It stems from comments made by Toronto lawyer Gary McCallum last year during an ongoing court case stating “A fourteen or fifteen-year-old is a sexually mature young woman. Not a child.”
Executive Director Bill Leonard calls the comments appalling and intolerable.
Leonard, in a statement, also apologizes.
Provincial law identifies anyone under the age of 18 to be considered a child.
