Koochiching County is preparing for the possibility of flooding.
It’s identified equipment and other items that might be needed this spring.
Board chair Brian McBride says they learned from 2014 about the importance of being prepared early.
“I think we have to and I hope everybody in the watershed is doing the same thing. You know. Our side, the Canadian side. I’m sure they’re looking at those issues also. We need to be ahead of it this time,” says McBride.
McBride notes the County is still submitting claims for damages from the 2014 flood to the federal government for reimbursement.
McBride says a decision by the International Joint Commission to bring lake levels to the lowest mark possible should help minimize any possible flooding.
He says it will be the ice and spring rains that dictate what if any flooding will occur.
