Ontario’s Environment Commissioner has released her final report.
As of last Friday, Diane Saxe and her eleven staff members were put out of work after the Ford government chopped that department.
Saxe says the job of reporting on environmental issues is now up to the province’s auditor general.
“I do not think she will be an advocate for the environment the way I am,” confesses Saxe. “My mandate, my lifetime experience, my role, is to put the environment first. Hers is to put money first.”
In her final report, Saxe looked at energy conservation and says the Ford government’s decision to slash conservation programs will increase Ontario’s reliance on fossil fuels and result in more greenhouse gas emissions.
