A housing subdivision, rejected by town council last year, has the support of council this time.
Council expressed their desire to proceed with the 27-lot subdivision at Erin Crescent during their budget meeting Monday night.
The project was voted down last year over concerns from some that the lot prices were too steep.
In a new report presented to council Monday, it’s estimated the lots to range in cost between $64-thousand and $138-thousand.
Operations and Facilities Manager Travis Rob says even that is still uncertain.
“We have a range of where we think they’re going to be. Once we have it tendered, we’ll have a better idea of where we’re gonna be in terms of those lot price numbers,” says Rob.
The first phase of work calls for the installation of sewer and water lines and the start of construction of a road.
Councillor Andrew Hallikas is among those okay with proceeding.
“We need to be a forward-looking community and developing these lots because they are needed is an investment in our future. Not only in terms of financial investment, which they are because we’re going to increase our tax base, but it is also a draw for people coming in the community,” says Hallikas. ” I’ve talked to some of the real estate folks. Right now the real estate market is quite hot. I know that can change but I think, the longer you put up developing these lots the greater the initial cost. I just think it’s something we should move forward on.”
