The trainer for the Fort Frances Lakers has been named the first recipient of a new SIJHL’s award.
Jake Witherspoon selected as Trainer/Equipment Manager of the Year.
This was Witherspoon’s first season with the club.
Success for a couple of girls hockey teams from the Fort Frances area during a 3-on-3 tournament in Dryden.
A team called the Lunachicks captured the peewee division.
The Emo Express claimed third place in the atom division after a sixteen round shootout with the Fort Frances Royals.
Avery Visser scored the deciding goal.
Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association handed out its hardware Sunday at its annual awards banquet.
Both team and individual awards were presented.
Blake Bodnar, Noah Avis, Evan Wright, Tristan Yerxa, Klyde Laplante and Aiden Wielinga were MVPs in their respective divisions.

Rainy River Voyageurs men’s baseball team swept Worthington’s Western Technical College yesterday by scores of 4-1 and 6-2 and to earn a split in their weekend series.
Saturday, the Voyageurs lost 4-2 and 10-2.
The Voyageurs women’s softball team went winless over the weekend during a series of indoor games at the Rochester Dome.
Friday, they lost to Dakota College 5-1 and to Ridgewater 9-8.
Saturday, the Voyageurs were beaten 12-2 by St. Cloud Tech and 14-5 by Rochester.
Joe Basaraba’s season in the UK’s EIHL has come to an end.
The former Fort Frances Muskie notched a goal and an assist for his Fife Flyers Saturday in their 3-3 tie with Nottingham, but a 3-0 loss in their second game yesterday eliminated the Flyers from the playoffs.
Basaraba end the regular season scoring 22 goals and 45 points in 58 games.
Rainy River’s Cole Tymkin had an an assist in London’s 7-nothing whitewash of the Guelph Storm in the second round of the OHL playoffs.
Tymkin now has four points in the three playoff games he’s suited up for.
Ryan Faragher regular season in the ECHL came to end Sunday with a 7-4 in Idaho’s final game Sunday.
Faragher appeared in 20 games, going 8-8 -2.
He and the rest of his teammates prepare for the playoffs which start this coming weekend against the Utah Grizzlies.
