Thursday it was the students, Saturday it was the teachers rallying in protest against the Ford government’s changes to education.
As many as 30-thousand educators, parents and students joined in front of the Ontario legislature, some of them coming from northwestern Ontario.
Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation President Harvey Bischof says the demonstrations are necessary.
“We have to gather to send a clear message that cuts to education are wrong. They are unacceptable,” says Bischoff.
Bischof worries the changes are leading to the privatization of the education system.
Elementary Teachers Federation president Sam Hammond believes the Premier and his Education Minister need to apologize to students for suggesting they were following union orders to protest last week.
“How dare they. How dare they say that some union boss or some union thug told them what to do,” says Hammond.
Hammond warned Ford those same students would be voting in the next election and their teachers would be voting with them.
