Finance Minister Vic Fedeli has handed down his first provincial budget and it includes no new tax increases.
The 2019 budget includes a new child care tax credit, that could see families receive up to $6,000 for eligible child care expenses per child under seven, up to $3,750 per child between the ages of seven and 16, and up to $8,250 per child with a severe disability.
When it comes to auto insurance, the government says they are giving you more choice in deciding which auto insurance coverage suits your needs, and you’ll be able to have more control over rates.
The government is also introducing a Driver Care Card, which would streamline access to care and make claims processing easier.
It may not come as a surprise, the PC government plans to expand the sale of beer and wine to corner stores, big box stores and more grocery stores.
As earlier reported, the government also plans to create a tailgating permit for eligible sporting events and will let municipalities make rules about alcohol consumption in public spaces, such as parks.
They’ll also be extending hours of alcohol service at licensed establishments, allowing them to start serving booze at 9 a.m.
The cat was let out of the bag earlier this week, however, the province has made it official saying our new licence plate slogan will be “A place to grow.”
Other highlights include a new province-wide support unit for local police dealing with guns and gangs.
Another new initiative effective January 1, 2020, the government will scrap the Estate Administration Tax for taxable estates with assets of $50,000 or less and would be reduced by $250 for larger taxable estates.
