The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River is determined to bring Ontario Northland’s intercity bus service to northwestern Ontario.
It now connects communities in northeastern Ontario, reaches as far west as White River and Hearst.
Greg Rickford says it was during a recent visit to White River that got him questioning why the buses only reach that far.
The Northern Development Minister speaking to members of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce says he plans to change that.
“We hope in the next couple of months we’re going to be able to bring some full-fledged bus services,” says Rickford.
Rickford acknowledges the service now provided by Kasper Transportation out of Thunder Bay but says their buses have some limitations for the traveling public.
“As turtle-back buses they don’t have the handicapped access that is required, and they have no washroom facilities which is often the criteria for people going on medical transport.
Rickford expects to make an announcement soon.
