Jackson Arpin of Rainy River High School will compete for a provincial badminton title next week after capturing the NWOSSA crown in senior boys singles yesterday in Thunder Bay.
Arpin went 5-0 in match play without dropping a single game.
Meantime, Atikokan High School won both the senior and junior team championships and will send seven players to North Bay.
Destinee Lafond won silver in senior girls singles.
Reed King and Josh Palmai finished second in senior boys doubles play.
Tia Alexiuk and Sarah Ribey were second in senior girls doubles while Joel Hayes and Monica Young placed second in mixed doubles.
The Fort Frances High duo of Tayah Badiuk and Lauryn Marchant finished third in senior girls doubles.
On the junior side, Atikokan’s Darby Mattson and Connor Lind captured the mixed doubles title.
Courtney Mason, also of Atikokan, was second in girls singles.
Kaitlyn Learning and Kelly Brigham, also of Atikokan, ended up third after a tiebreaker for the girls doubles championship.
Rainy River Voyageurs women’s softball team earned a sweep against Mesabi Range Tuesday, winning 8-1 and 13-5.
Janet Humbert slugged a three-run home run in game two.
