The Northwestern Health Unit has been invited to work on reports related to climate change.
The fact finding project is funded by Health Canada and is a two year initiative that involves all seven health units in northern Ontario.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young-Hoon says they will “look closely at what are the potential health concerns that could come about from climate change and what we may need to do in our region to reduce the impact.”
Young-Hoon says they will look at flooding and forest fires and how that could impact our health as well as infectious disease issues including West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease.
She says once the reports are complete they will be shared with communities and be used to develop appropriate supports and education.
