A northwestern Ontario MP feels the federal Liberals have worked hard to bring real partnership and reconciliation with Indigenous people.
Kenora MP Bob Nault addressed native leaders attending Grand Council Treaty 3’s spring council meeting at Couchiching First Nation Tuesday.
While acknowledging the progress made, Nault admitted they’ve made mistakes along the way.
“Even though the Prime Minister has been to the riding three time, this is historical frankly anyone coming to this region three times in one term. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a lot of work to do and learn a lot more,” says Nault.
Nault says he’s working on a process that gets Treaty 3 leadership and elders meeting with the Prime Minister on their relationship and how it works and they interact.
He says it’s something he wants to achieve in the next few months.
“It is clear that we need to keep working to improve his understanding and all of the government in Ottawa’s understanding of what we are trying to accomplish,” says Nault.
