Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott says no decision have been made regarding health unit.
Speaking at Queen’s Park, Elliott says there’s still numerous consultations that need to take place before anything is finalized.
“There were some discussions that happened by phone last week with the medical officers of health on the suggestion of boundaries, but they are only suggestions. They have not been decided upon. There is a lot of consultation, particularly with municipalities, that has yet to happen,” says Elliott.
Elliott added the purpose of the proposal was to modernize the public health system so they can respond to crises more effectively and efficiently.
She also disputed the oppostion’s claim that the public health units were left in the dark.
“That is absolutely not the case,” says Elliot. “They have been consulted. They have had conversations. There are many more discussions that have yet to be had.”
