The Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board is still waiting to learn how funding changes by the provincial government will impact services it’s responsible.
In recent weeks, there’s been discussion about funding for child care, social services and land ambulance.
Chief Administrative Officer Dan McCormick says the local impact is still uncertain.
“We still don’t have enough information to make an informed decision on what that costs will be to the municipalities or whether we have to change our service delivery model,” says McCormick.
McCormick says they have been told of changes impacting child services but not all of the details are known or even how it will impact on the municipal share of costs.
“Our expansion funding which was originally a hundred percent provincial, they want to go to an 80-20 cost sharing. We have to look at that and see what can the municipalities afford,” says McCormick.
McCormick notes there was very little change to funding for Ontario Works.
With socials housing, there’s some new initiatives with two new programs.
McCormick is expecting to learn about all of the details and how they will impact on local services over the next week weeks.
