The US government is renewing mineral leases for work in an area adjacent to the Minnesota-Ontario border.
The leases held by Twin Metals Minnesota are located in the Rainy River Watershed near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The Bureau of Land Management says it received more than 39-thousand comments, many expressing concern with the impact of mining activity on the environment.
The Bureau says the leases are within areas designated for mining.
