The Northwest Legal Clinic says it’s now facing the impact of provincial funding cuts to Legal Aid Ontario.
The province slashed the agencies budget in half earlier this year.
For the regional legal clinic, it’s now had to delay the hiring of two staff lawyers for the Kenora office.
Executive Director Trudy McCormick says they’re also now having to turn people away at all of their office who need legal assistance.
“I don’t know where people will go and that’s my biggest fear of all. The changes this government’s making will impact those folks the most,” says McCormick.
McCormick says staff in Fort Frances are now trying to take on some of the workload from the short-staffed Kenora office.
Fort Frances town council is throwing their support behind the legal clinic in calling on government to restore funding.
