One of the oldest businesses in downtown Fort Frances is celebrating.
Staff at TD Canada Trust recognized their 105th year in operation with an open house yesterday
Bank Manager Katie Trigg says it allowed them to thank the community for being able to grow with it.
“We’re in an area here on Scott Street where the businesses have been here for sixty to 125 years. So, it’s really amazing that the community has allowed us to grow here and be a part of it for so long,” says Trigg.
TD’s District vice-president Max LeClerc says the bank first opened in 1914 as a branch of the Dominion Bank.
“Originally we were Dominion Bank and the Toronto Bank and the two actually merged a number of years ago. Then back in 200o or 2001 we purchased Canada Trust and that’s where we became TD Canada Trust,” says LeClerc.
The bank’s original building was reconstructed to its current look in 1977.
