Rainy River First Nation is receiving in a pair of grants from the federal government
One grant, worth over $56-thousand will be used to develop a series of workshops around traditional Indigenous cultural practices.
Kayleigh Speirs, the Administration Director at the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre says they will involve community elders and youth.
“These workshops will be open to everyone including local youth as well as other regional national or even international visitors who wish to participate,” says Speirs.
Another 32-thousand will go to updating the centre’s collections.
Speirs says the money will be used to improve the centre’s storage, curation and housing areas to better care for the cultural artifacts.
“It will also allow us to offer behind the scenes tours of the spaces for added component to our services which will also allow us to ensure the ongoing sharing of knowledge and the protection of our past for future generations.”
