More impact to the Fort Frances Public Library regarding the funding cuts to Ontario Library Services – North.
Chief Executive Officer Caroline Goulding says technical support for a system used to check books in and out has been reduced.
Goulding says the Library Services has just two tech support staff to call if something happens, and they only work between the hours of 9 and 5.
“If we experience a service outage, which we usually experience at least one or 2 a year, it’s not going to be restored until the next working day. What that means for us is that people will not be able to access certain services from home and we will be not able to perform many of the basic library operations,” says Goulding.
The system is also used by the library to track unpaid fines.
The Library is dealing with changes to the inter-library loan service. The service is back but some libraries have chosen not to participate.
The Fort Frances Library has put a cap on the number of books they’ll bring so ensure their costs don’t get out of hand.
