Seventeen organizations and groups in Fort Frances are this year’s recipients of funding through the Winnipeg-based Moffatt Family Fund.
They were presented their cheques during Monday night’s town council meeting.
Mayor June Caul says this year’s allocation was higher than the $61-thousand made available in past years.
“This year they saw such a need and they’re so pleased with what happens here in fort Frances that we receive $93-thousand all together,” says Caul.
Caul says every recipient getting money received what they asked for.
Friends of KidsSport is getting $4,500 to offset the fees for eligible youth to participate in varioius sports and activities.
Confederation College was awarded $5,500 for its summer youth camps.
St. Mary’s Discovery Youth Program will get $3,000.
The Rainy River District Community Policing Committee is putting $3,000 toward its Safe Hallowe’en program Trunk or Treat.
The 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet League of Canada is receiving $7,850 to cover its rental costs.
The Kiwanis Sunny Cove Camp will use $8,000 for playground equipment.
Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts has $3,000 to assist disadvantaged youth take part in the festival as well expand on the Indigenous component of the festival.
Borderland Pride will use $2,000 for its Pride Week activities.
Six-thousand dollar will go to the Kenora-Rainy River District Child and Family Services for a social services skills development program using Lego.
The Friends of the Fort Frances Public Library, in partnership with the Substance Abuse Prevention Team, will get $2,000 to continue the community conversation around substance abuse among youth people in our community.
Community Living Fort Frances and District has $2,200 to continue open-air art sessions.
The Canada Day Committee will receive $15,000 for this year’s festivities.
The Northwestern Health Unit received $11,00 for its Nutrition On The Weekend program that provides healthy food to children who may not have it on weekends.
The Fort Frances Community Garden and its Kids Club are using $2,200 to support the kids garden club and the raise garden program.
The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Diagnosis Committee Partners of the Rainy River District was awarded $1,000 for a caregiver’s retreat.
The Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy has $15,000 to purchase equipment.
KidSport Fort Frances will use $2,500 to cover the purchase of equipment and registration fees for eligible children.
