A Bemidji angling team holds down top spot after the first day of fishing at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
The team of Lauren Ras and Chuck Olson ended the day with 19.75 lbs of fish.
Ras was happy with the outcome.
“We had a pretty good afternoon. We struggled in the morning and then started picking them off,” says Ras.
The Fort Frances team of Ryan McDowall and Mike Badiuk are sitting second about a half pound back.
Last year’s champions, Bryan Gustafson and Brian McNanney, are eight.
“We had a tough day. We had good weight but yeah we got one bass at one end of the lake, one at the other end of the lake, a couple of lucky ones. We definitely are trying to figure it out still but we’re probably still in it,” says Gustafson.
Fishing resumes today with the weigh-ins getting underway at 3:30 p.m. at the Sorting Gap Marina.
