The Ford government says it has a $315 million plan to improve Internet and cell phone service in rural and remote communities across Ontario.
The plan includes $150 million for a new broadband fund intended to leverage private sector funding and money from other levels of government.
Premier Doug Ford says his government will “make sure no community is left behind in the 21st century.”
He notes “12 percent of Ontario communities don’t have access to fast, reliable and affordable Internet, and cell service.”
The government says the five-year plan is expected to draw up to $1 billion in total investments and improve services to 220,000 homes and businesses.
