New Gold says its Rainy River mine is well-positioned to meet production targets for this year.
The equivalent of 129-thousand ounces of gold has been produced so far.
President Renaud Adams says June was a particularly good month.
“In June, the milling facility reached and exceed its operational objective in terms of throughput recovery, while the facility was positioned to deliver on its overall availability objective during the second half of the year,” says Adams.
Operations did have to stop for 10 days because of excess water in the tailings area.
Still, Renaud feels they will meet their targets.
“We now consider the milling facility in position to operate at a targeted level in terms of throughput recovery and availability.”
Meantime, the company continues to work on an optimization study to further improve on production while lowering costs.
Renaud says they also continue to study potential underground operations.
“Our focus now is to eliminate as much as we can as all the development required, again, to chase what we consider to be too much lower grade. Our new plan now would incorporate shorter ramp, less development, while we would continue to focus on better ounces.”
Renaud says an update on the mine’s life expectancy is also expected to be completed by the end of the year.
