The MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River is responding to allegations the federal government done little to help the forestry sector in northwestern Ontario.
Federal NDP candidate Yuk Sem Won last week was critical of the Liberals in her reaction to local concerns with the sale of the idled mill in Fort Frances.
Don Rusnak responds by saying any assertion the government’s done nothing “only shows they don’t understand the issue” and “would rather “score political points than find a solution.”
Rusnak adds the federal government can’t force any owner what to do with the property or force the province to allocate wood.
He says he has met with prospective purchasers and discussed federal programs they could access to keep the mill open.
