Classes are underway at Rainy River Community College.
The College kicked off its week with orientation for new students on Monday.
Around 215 students have enrolled this year. More than half are attending the college for the first time.
Provost Dr. Roxanne Kelly says they’re coming from all over the United States, Canada, and the Dominican Republic.
“Some of them it’s the athletics and others it really is because we care so much about students and they get the one on one attention that many of the bigger colleges attempt to do but just can’t quite like we can,” says Provost.
Some of those students are enrolled in their nursing programs.
Kelly says both the practical nursing and registered nursing program are full to capacity.
“Which is exciting. My understanding is that is the first time ever since we’ve done the partner program that both areas are full.”
The college was able to start those programs through a partnership with Itasca Community College a few years ago.
Kelly says creating new partnerships is something says they’re also looking for. Most recently they were able to address a need by bringing in a hospitality management program with Normandale Community College. Another complements their truck driving program,
“Not only do we have our own truck driving program but we also partner with Hibbing. It’s so that we can meet the needs of the community and if somebody has another need we just need to know about it and we can see what we can do to help.”
