Some added support for victims of violent crimes.
The provincial government is introducing what it calls the Victim Quick Response Program plus. It’s an enhancement to the existing program.
Attorney General Doug Downey says it’s aimed at making it easier and quicker for victims and their families to access services and support.
“When victims of violent crime experiencing unthinkable tragedy in the immediate aftermath they should have quick access to the support that they need. With VQ RP plus they will,” says Downey.
Downey says there will also be more funding available to victims.
“We’re doubling the funding that currently exists in the VQRP program and it’s a demand-based program so that we will meet the needs of the victims as they come forward.”
Downey adds no victim should have wait to get help.
VQRP will also replace the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board which will still handle claims until September 30.
