A political science professor from New Brunswick believes voters will become more engaged with the federal election now that the campaign officially kicked off Wednesday.
Mount Allison University’s Mario Levesque feels the federal Liberals are actually in decent shape heading into the campaign, but there are some areas of concern for them.
“For example, in 2015, the Liberals won all seats in Atlantic Canada. I don’t think we’re gonna see that this time around. They are vulnerable. At least 5 seats if not more will turn likely Conservative,” says Levesque.
Levesque sees the Liberals campaigning on their progress with Indigenous people and the environment.
He says Conservative leader Andrew Scheer will be looking to hold the government to account on the SNC-Lavalin affair and the prime minister’s recent ethics breach.
Some of the issues he expects during the campaign include climate change, immigration, the oil industry, international trade, and health care.
