The federal government is creating a new federal Pay Equity Commissioner.
Karen Jensen will be the first to serve in the role.
Her job will be to administer and enforce a new Pay Equity Act which comes into effect on September 30, 2020.
She’ll serve on the Canadian Human Rights Commission until then overseeing the establishment of new Pay Equity Division.
The goal is to reduce the wage gap between male and female employees who work in federally regulated workplaces.
