Premier Doug Ford is showing his support for Ontario’s agricultural Industry.
He met with farmers and agricultural organizations last week at a major outdoor show in Woodstock.
Ford says he’s committed to growing the industry.
“The Canadian agriculture partnership, we’ ll expand the agriculture sector in Ontario. The federal and provincial governments are committing up to $417-million and we have supported over 2,000 projects already,” says Ford.
Ford adds the government is also working to strengthen trade with the US that benefits Ontario farmers.
The Premier says it’s important to protect and grow the sector.
“One in the eight jobs within the farming sector supports Ontario. They feed on Ontario, they feed Canada, they feed parts of the world. But right to our GDP, it’s $47.7-billion.”
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ernie Hardeman adds they’ve also put in place a program for those impacted by trade disputes.
Intake started earlier this month for the Market Access Initiative, a new cost-shared funding initiative to help farming and food sector organizations access alternative markets for their products.
