International Falls city police will be working with the FBI.
An agreement was finalized this week by city council between its police force and the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force.
Police Chief Rich Mastin says it brings FBI resources to the area.
“This is an opportunity to join forces with the FBI and bring their resources here as well to help us with different things such as cross border issues, human trafficking in particular, drug trafficking,” says Mastin.
It’s being done as a pilot to start.
“If this is a success as we hope it will be, we would then come back and revisit with a different agreement which would probably be bringing the city some financial gain.”
Mastin says currently there is no financial cost associated with the city police hooking up with the FBI.
